What is School at Sea?

From mid-October to mid-April about 35 young people sail to the Caribbean and back on tall ship Thalassa. In addition to the regular homework, students learn more about other subjects on board and during expeditions on land.

Students "have watch", which means: sailing the Thalassa across the ocean while learning to navigate and learning anything else that is necessary to get the ship and its crew to the other side safe and sound. Learning by doing: planning, organising, working together and taking responsibility.

School, sailing and expeditions are interwoven. As the journey progresses, student will take on more and more responsibilities, for example during a ship takeover. When halfway, stundets will organise their own week long trip on land. They will learn what the most important factor is for making this unforgettable adventure a succes: themselves!
